What is Impact73?
Impact73 is an interdisciplinary impact community for people who wish to maximise their positive impact on the world.
- “Interdisciplinary impact” - areas such as: the future of work; diversity & inclusion; holistic wellbeing; sustainability; ethics; volunteering & charity;
- “Maximise” - this is the maximum that is right for you, however you define it, for wherever you are in your life. It is not about doing THE maximum in everything!
- “Positive impact” - this is anything which has the potential to positively affect either yourself and/ or wider society and/ or the planet on which we live.
Why was Impact73 created?
The world of impact is relatively young; not enough progress is being made by governments alone; there is a lot of conflicting information (and misinformation) out there; existing impact frameworks are not as accessible as they could be; and most environments within society do not have the level of psychological safety required for the complex and nuanced discussions that are needed to progress understanding.
The rate of change in the world is getting faster; people are feeling more uncertain, more anxious, less safe and less hopeful. At the same time, there are huge opportunities for people to can ‘see what others do not see’ and who can ‘predict the future’ before it happens.
Impact73 focuses on three things:
- We give people a dedicated space in which to hear diverse perspectives, ask difficult questions, gently challenge conventional wisdom, and cut through the noise – with the aim of finding the path forward that is right for you.
- With only very complex problems left to solve in the world, an interdisciplinary approach maximises the chances of insights, collaboration, innovation and learning.
- By taking time out of your life to slow down, be curious, listen and reflect; you will:
- be surrounded by supportive people who are all working to make the world better;
- find it easier to appreciate, and be thankful for, the things that are truly important;
- increase your compassion, understanding and insights;
- become aware, sooner, of any changes you should make in your journey through life;
- see solutions to problems that no one else does;
What does Impact73 do?
There are two core elements. Firstly, we are building a ‘wiki of impact best-practise’ - so people have a map to the world of impact. Secondly, we run events (in-person and online); for people to collaborate, question, challenge & learn; in a psychologically safe environment; with the intention that people leave a little wiser.
Who is Impact73 for?
Anyone who:
- wants to maximise* their positive impact on the world;
- is curious about other people’s lives and journeys;
- values the things we do.*
* Our core values are:
- Curiosity: to learn about diverse people and topics; to try new things; to question the status quo.
- Compassion: everyone is human-first. Listen; support; value diversity.
- Inclusion: collaborate with others - not in spite of their differences, but because of them.
- Thoughtfulness: listen carefully; think deeply; challenge gently.
- Bravery: ask the difficult questions; make the hard choices; be true to yourself and your values.
What is the significance of the ‘73’ in Impact73?
- Whilst the community started in 2022 (under the name Product-Society Fit), 2023 saw the start of a rebrand.
- 7 is the lucky number; 3 the magic number;
- 1973 was the year of the Paris Peace Accords;
- Our aim is to build lasting change in the world, and Impact73 is a nod towards our first 50 years of creating impact (2023-2073).
What are the longer-term aims of Impact73?
- Run more events (networking; panel sessions; interactive discussions) – online, across the UK and around the world.
- Developing the wiki – a more complete map of the world of impact will allow people to make more informed decisions. Very high quality, very concise, very comprehensive.
- Always free to all (event attendance and access to the wiki)
- Self-sustaining (without reliance on external funding)
- Mutually beneficial (for anyone volunteering time or donating resources – as defined by them)
- Decentralised (centralising admin creates bottlenecks and limits speed of growth)
- Maximally inclusive (‘to the greatest extent possible’ rather than ‘regardless of the cost’)
